Email Marketing and Anti-Spam Policy
Last updated:
Make is a reliable provider of email marketing services. Therefore, we take the issue of unsolicited email, also known as spam, very seriously.
When you register as a user of Make's services, you commit to complying with our terms of service. This also includes our guidelines for email marketing and anti-spam. When sending inquiries to recipients in other countries, you commit to complying with the relevant laws in the respective countries. Misuse of the service may result in the suspension of your account.
1. Consent
All email distribution must be based on the recipient's consent. This also applies to general addresses like "post@". Consent must be informed, explicit, and voluntary. Consent means an "active, informed, and voluntary declaration from the recipient that they wish to receive marketing communications via email." When consent is obtained, information must be provided in such a way that the recipient understands what they are consenting to. If sufficient information cannot be provided when obtaining consent, the information must be provided in the first email sent.
We recommend sending an email confirmation after consent has been given, clearly describing what the recipient will receive in the future. Consent is not required for an "existing customer relationship".
You can obtain consent from your recipients to receive newsletters and other marketing in several ways:
Subscription to newsletters via a signup form on your website.
Approval to receive newsletters through a checkbox in a form, for example, during an e-commerce checkout process.
Verbal approval.
Electronic form or a traditional paper form, for example, placed in a store or on a counter.
2. Clear Sender
Every distribution must always clearly identify the sender. A physical address and contact information must be provided.
3. Clear Unsubscribe Option
Every distribution must clearly state how to unsubscribe from future mailings. Unsubscriptions must be effective within 24 hours. The method for unsubscribing from future marketing communications must be clear and prominent in every email. Unsubscriptions must be honored at all times. Upon unsubscribing, a confirmation page must appear, verifying the cancellation and showing which email address the unsubscription applies to.
4. Updated Recipient Lists
Your lists must be kept up to date at all times and contain only valid recipients. The lists must only contain active customers and recipients with active consent. Recipients who have been inactive for an extended period must be removed. Invalid email addresses (bounces) must be removed before the next send.
Make continuously receives delivery reports from email providers such as Google, Microsoft, Telenor, etc. If we receive feedback that a sender is perceived as spam, Make may block the mailings and suspend the account with immediate effect.
Our guidelines for email marketing and anti-spam are based on Section 15 of the Marketing Control Act, Section 9 of the E-Commerce Act, and the Consumer Authority's guidance on email marketing.
